Rob Barnwell

Superintendent of Schools

A lifelong resident of Northeast Texas, Rob Barnwell is a graduate of Queen City High School.   He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Henderson State University, as well as a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration with Principal Certification from Texas A&M-Commerce, and Superintendent Certification from Texas A&M University-Texarkana. 

Barnwell began his career in education in 1989 at New Boston ISD.  After nine years of teaching and coaching at NBISD, Barnwell moved into an administrative role at McLeod ISD, where he served as baseball coach and Secondary Assistant Principal his first year.  After serving as McLeod ISD’s Secondary Principal for five more years, Barnwell was named the Superintendent at Queen City ISD in 2004, where he served for nine years.   Barnwell became Jefferson ISD’s Superintendent in August of 2013.  The 2022-23 school year marks the beginning of his 34^th year in public education.

Hi everyone !!

I want to thank you for choosing Jefferson ISD!!  I believe Jefferson is “The Place to Be”, as we have a wonderful staff, a supportive school board, and a diverse student population.  Also, Jefferson is a thriving city, set in beautiful Marion County.  Jefferson is a special community with lots to do.  We have wonderful restaurants, great antique stores, lots of historical sites and homes, (particularly bed-and-breakfasts), and fun events almost every week of the year.   If you have never been to Jefferson, Texas, I urge you to come for a visit.   

At JISD, we expect to maintain a “holistic” approach, striving to ensure all of our students get the best education possible, while also helping every child grow and mature into becoming the best person they can be.  We help our students improve in all areas while guiding them to identify their strengths and interests in order to assist them in their future endeavors, whether their journey takes them into the work force, the military, or an institution of higher learning. 

Parents, I want the school year to be fulfilling and rewarding for you and your children.  We (the  JISD staff and administration) are here to serve your child’s needs.  I expect our teachers and staff to communicate with you as needed.  I encourage you, as parents, to stay connected with your child’s teachers and administrators.   Teamwork and communication are key ingredients for a positive educational experience.
